These classic images of Vancouver are floating around the internet today.
I loved my father's response when I sent him the link:
"The High-Low is where we bought groceries when first married. The City Center is where our salesmen all got together for coffee almost every morning (emoticon)."
Almost as much, I loved this back alley—a little glimpse into the original vision of a Vancouver Special: sun-drenched patio with a shiny new Chevy Nova in the carport. Now those derelict outbuildings in the foreground have all be replaced by equally run-down, over-purposed versions of those VS carports. But here and there, Vancouverites are reimagining this vision of urban family living and turning these shoddy, decried Vancouver Specials into airy liveable spaces—and replacing the Nova with a child-toting Devinci ;)
I like vintage Vancouver, but I like this future Vancouver even more.
